School Closings Stanly Enterprise May 28, 1908

McCullough preached the annual sermon to the graduating class of Albemarle
graded schools on Sunday morning in the new Opera House.
The large auditorium was well filled, the several churches of the place
having called services off in honor of this event.
Mr. McCullough is a recognized scholar, and his experience and interest
in educational work made the appointment especially appropriate.
His sermon was excellent and everyone present enjoyed it.
On Monday evening
in the Opera House the graduating class gave its exercises, at the close of
which diplomas were given to the thirteen graduates, as follows: Margaret Ewing,
Velma Morrow, Etta Belle Stevens, Mollie Russell, Eva Shankle, Laura Hearne, Loy
Gulledge, Howard Dry, Lee Morrow, Frank King, Blandon Belk, Baird Efird. Prof. Shackleford in a short address touched feelingly upon the work of the school, his relations to it and with the people of Albemarle, of the problems that were met and overcome, of those that yet remain…….. |
