THE ENCHANTED WOOD

“The Enchanted Wood” will prove a most delightful attraction at the opera house.  Some 85 boys and girls of the Albemarle Graded School combine to bring out all the life and interest that is couched in unstinted measure in this juvenile operetta.  The direction of Misses McNally and McDougald assure the success of the play.  It is to be given Friday evening, April 15 at 8:30 o’clock at opera house.  Prices 25 and 35 cents.  Don’t fail to attend.

"ENCHANTED WOOD" - WELL RECEIVED

The large crowd in attendance at the opera house on Friday evening was not disappointed, unless it went to see a poor entertainment –which would have been an unkindly attitude.  A person is usually entertained to the extent that he or she chooses to be, but some entertainments entertain in spite of one’s self and this was that kind. Even those who are hard to entertain must have derived some enjoyment from attending the play on Friday evening.

A class of boys and girls on a day’s outing fall asleep like the characters in “Midsummer Night’s Dream” an summon Mother Goose with all her retinue, who put a spell upon the sleepers, and they dream the night away, while the fairies act out the dreams.  Miss Mary McDougald gracefully acted the part of the Fairy Queen.

The costuming and the calcium lights gave very pretty effects, and the songs and enchantments added much to the enjoyment of the play.  The children and young ladies showed excellent training and performed their parts without a hitch, doing credit to themselves and the young ladies, Misses McNally and McDougald, who assumed the major part of the burden of the training.  Miss Tilledge acted the part of lady teacher for the children.  Many expressions of satisfaction were hard on all sides from those in attendance.
