De Koven Quartette

Assisted by a fine reader and soprano, the De Koven Male Quartette will appear in Opera House, Saturday evening, March 5th under the auspices of the Radcliffe Entertainment Bureau, presenting a novel program consisting of ensemble interspersed with recitals, vocal solos and the delightful musical and literary after-piece “Firelight Memories.”

The De Kovens are the best representatives of the ever popular male quartette now before the public.  Year after year they have returned to the lyceum circuits in response to steadily growing demand and in all this time no change whatever has been made in the personnel of the organization.  As a result, ensemble work of a rare degree of excellence has been obtained.  Individually, each is an excellent singer in his class and a skilled musician.  Ivan H. Blackman, the second tenor, is manager of the company.  The others are Howard L Baxter, first tenor and cornetist, Clifford A. Foote, baritone, and John J. Odbert, basso.  The soprano soloist is Miss Anna Florence Smith who has been meeting with much success this season.

The program will be given in three parts with different costumes. A special feature will be a group of the old familar songs rendered in the memorable De Koven style that has stirred many a big Southern audience to an enthusiastic demonstration.  The famous sextette from “Lucia” arranged for the five voices will be another attractive number.  The musical series will be varied with the readings by Miss Smith who is generally regarded as one of the most talented young women under the lyceum management.
